“The land of Molkoro once had a god, a mighty panther god,” the sailor said. “At the time the ettins arrived from beyond the sea in their black-sailed ships, the people of the jungle worshiped the great Jhub-El. He was a mighty god, but he had one weakness Trust.”
Pietro, a young man, has never killed something rare for the corrupt city of Peregoth and totally alien to the tropics of Molkoro, where circumstances will soon take him. In the sweltering jungle, his purity has become a commodity to the ettin invaders and their lord, the dark Vexor.
But how long can his innocence last in a godless land?
A short story of approximately 3,500 words.
The Godless Land eBook AJ Cooper
AJ Cooper presents a quick read that could probably be finished within twenty minutes to half an hour. It's short and to the point, where the action just keeps going. I think this is both a blessing and a curse. There really didn't seem to be much chance for me to take in the world. Then again, this is a rather short story. It gets the job done no matter the brevity.Product details

The Godless Land eBook AJ Cooper Reviews
For a person who has never found much interest in fantasy pieces, I found myself very engaged in the Godless land. AJ Cooper writes in a way that paints a picture for the reader and allows them to see the story in a very clear manner; much like watching a movie. But besides his writing style, the content of the story blind-sided me. When I think of most fantasy stories, I think of a mystical land where the disadvantaged good side defeats the evil that surrounds them. However, Cooper tells us a tale of greed and deceit. In this story, there is no good guy. Cooper seems to be writing about a non-existent land while using what he has seen around him in his own existence as a basis for the plot. In the real world good doesn't always win, that is to say if "good" even exists. Human history is full of evil much like the characters presented in this short story, and because of this, allows the reader to connect to its raw humanity. The Godless Land was not only entertaining, but had a finale that stuck with me. I often find myself replaying the ending of the story in my head, giving me chills up my spine.
As short stories goes, this is pretty good. It holds your interest up to the last page. I enjoyed the read.
The Godless Land is just not fleshed out enough for me. The plot could have been much more involved and taken the reader into the story more.
This is written well and although the subject matter was rather morbid, it was a quick read. I did not like the ending but I know there was really no other way for it to go without justice being shown.
