I read this, now I write better! Mr. Grapes is a scholar and a poet, and the only question I have is when is part 2 coming out!
Mr. Grapes was my teacher at the University of Maryland and one of the only instructors to take time to get to know me as a student. His style of teaching is easy to understand and very educational. This book is like his class in written form, and I can't wait to learn more from him!
When I heard about this book from a friend, I had to check it out for myself. One of my favorite parts about this book is that it's unpretentious--not stuffy like Strunk and White or any of those writing handbooks you had to read at school. It's a real person teaching you how to THINK about writing. One takeaway that I really value is that we're all writers--even if we don't consider ourselves to be. We all have something to say, and we all have a unique perspective on the world that deserves to be communicated. This book facilitates genuine, intentional communication from those of us who have "written off" writing as a difficult or unnecessary skill to master.
It is a little slower paced than expected however, it is very interesting and everyone can learn something from it.
I have always wanted to become a writer, and this book has given me the tools to finally sit down and really go for my dream. Mr. Grapes explains what is necessary to go about writing everything from novels to term papers to cover letters and resumes. This book is for everyone from the beginner to the professional. I applaud Mr. Grapes for this interesting and instructional read.
As an older person who has done a lot of writing personally and professionally, I didn't think this book would be as meaningful for me as for a younger writer. WAS I WRONG! Mr. Grapes is able to get to the heart of what it takes to write and he also pinpoints what gets in the way of our writing. In my daily professional writing I am focusing more on my audience and I loved your demystification of the writing process. This book is good for ages 14 to 90....really. Thank you Mr. Grapes for rejuvenating my writing!
