I was really excited to read this book. It sounded interesting and engaging. A stalker after witnessing a crime ten years ago? A cop protecting our heroine? I'm a sucker for cop heroes (and heroines for that matter too). This seemed like a book made for me.
But this book was just okay. In fact, I kind of had to push myself to keep reading it. The writing was a little jilted, the plot even more unbelievable than most Love Inspired Suspense, the relationship between the main characters both too slow and way too fast. For a good portion of the book, there really wasn't much between Gemma and Matt, and then they kind of lurched forward into being together, and then lurched back when stuff happened, and then at the end, it was like, bang, we're together! It just did not feel at all real and it was not engaging.
Also, so this is a little nit picky, but there were just little things that kept annoying me which would further lessen my desire to finish reading this book (I did, but at times it was a struggle). Gemma would often mention that she was a good southern girl so she wouldn't do this or that, but then pages later she would do this and that. And everything was described as southern this, southern that. I have read quite a few Love Inspired set in the south (in fact one of my favorite Love Inspired of all time is set in the south: Shelter from the Storm by Cheryl Wolverton), and none that I have read have felt the need to continually, over and over, point out that this book was happening in the south.
I gave it three stars rather than two because overall, the book is okay. Yes, there were a lot of things that annoyed me, but they were little and are probably more of a personal preference rather than a huge detractor. But if you are like me, than you might want to skip this one.

Great book. Easy to read the print. This is a author that makes you keep reading. She writes a good balance of romance and suspense.
Great read.
Very well written and full of suspense. It shows that our past or a family member's mistake has to define the path we take. God can direct us and we make our own choices being guided by Him.
I first found out about Sarah Varland's books after seeing a post on her dad's Facebook page. I downloaded all of her books on my and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed each one of them!! It was difficult to put them down when I had something I needed to do. I am so glad that I purchased these books and I am looking forward to her new ones coming soon!!
