Petectives Under Fire edition by Robert J Smith Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Well, summer has arrived, and the temperature is not the only thing rising in the neighborhood for Gatsby and Yoshi or the Dog Patrol. It seems that crime has invaded the area, and things are really heating up.

For one thing, "Sophie, the Pomeranian who lives next door to Percy was attacked in her front yard by a dog," and she claims Percy was her attacker - a fact Percy steadfastly denies. Fortunately, she was rushed to the vet and received help quickly so she will make a full recovery, but Duke (the head of the Dog Patrol) has asked for Gatsby and Yoshi to help prove Percy innocent.

Percy has threatened everyone for years, telling them he would attack them just as soon as he got free from his chain. So everyone has a reason to believe Sophie when she says Percy attacked her. Besides, why would she lie about that? But truth be told, Percy has been off his chain before, and he didn't attack anyone. So why now? And why a little Pomeranian?

Good luck ferreting out the facts of this case, Gatsby!

In the meantime, there is another problem in the neighborhood: Nails, a particularly nasty pit bull, is running a protection racket with a couple of her canine companions. She is not playing nice, and someone is bound to suffer sooner or later.

Looks like Gatsby and Yoshi have their paws full this time! Grab a cold lemonade or iced tea, put your feet up, and read along to see who solves these mysteries first.

Another fast read to delight cat / dog lovers.

Petectives Under Fire edition by Robert J Smith Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Each book in the Petectives mystery series has been more fun and adorable than the last, and Under Fire is the best one yet. A local Pomeranian, Sophie, has been viciously attacked in her own yard and Percy the pit bull has been blamed. On top of this, a ghost from the past has returned to Yoshi and Gatsby's neighborhood and is running a protection racket! When Gatsby's girlfriend Molasses gets caught in the crossfire, our crime-solving duo put their paws down, determined to solve their latest case.

The scene stealers for me in this book are Sophie's two neighbor cats, Willy and Sunshine. Willy spends every moment watching the world go by from his front window, but says he was eating when the attack took place and didn't see anything. (He admires Yoshi, Gatsby, and Dog Patrol leader Duke so much that he's made action figures of them!) Sunshine is a "hippie tortie" and amateur gardener who also points the finger at Percy. Willy and Sunshine are two of the best written feline characters you will ever meet.

You simply can't go wrong with any of the Petectives books. Each one is an absolute delight.
There have been so many cat cozy books written lately where the human is the detective with insight derived from their pet cat that, everywhere you look, you see a cat on the book jackets. This book has turned the tables and Yoshi and Gatsby are the detectives in a sort of Nero Wolfe who never goes out and Archie Goodwin who does the footwork kind of relationship. The local Dog Patrol is akin to the local police. The mystery was engaging did a pit bull that constantly threatens other animals with violence actually attack a smaller dog? Witnesses are questioned. Is a renegade pit bull that escaped from Animal Control responsible? What really happened? Drugs come into it also. I really enjoyed this book! A cat that is erudite and educated makes an interesting and very amusing investigator. More, please!
Love this series. Great bedtime reading.
Nice book! Extremely entertaining and totally different. Works too. Great author.
I found this to be a delightful read. Of course I am a fan of cat mysteries. The personalities of Gatsby and his friends made me chuckle and the story kept me reading. This is a light mystery, not a deep dark heavy read. Perfect for a summer day.
I recently discovered this series and just love it! I've read them all now and can't wait for a new one to come out. One thing I like about it so much is that they are stand alone stories so they don't have to be read in a particular order.

Please publish a new one soon. I've just finished this one and am already jonesing for Yoshi and Gatsby, not to mention Duke, Chuck, Molasses and the rest of the crew.
Simply put, this little book is fun. Really, it will appeal most if not all to "Cat People" of whom I consider myself to be one. One thing I particularly liked was the fact that proper nap times were a part of the story. We cat people know how much time cats spend napping. If they don't nap, it isn't real. Cat stories run the gamut from those that feature quite realistic cats, some that talk to each other, those that can speak english, and those who actually speak like Oxford professors. How far your imagination can extend may have a lot to do with how you will like the Petectives series. For a fun and quick read, I really liked this one. I had been keeping this for a time when I wanted just this kind of read and it worked perfectly.
